Activities for 2017-2018
The Chapter will meet at the Samuel McGowan Camp #40 SCV Building the 3rd Tuesday of the month at 6:30 PM for regular meetings except for months stipulated in the calendar below.
September 20 – speaker Tom Elmore, “Carnival of Destruction, the Burning of Columbia.”
October 18 – speaker Robert Roper, “Secession: The Prelude to It and Constitutionality of It.”
November 18 – annual family history sharing time and benevolent project night.
December 10 – trip to Washington, Ga to view Tour of Homes decorated for Christmas.
Depart from 1st Presbyterian Church, Laurens at 8: A.M.
January 17 – annual work meeting to prepare for Lee-Jackson Luncheon. Ticket money from sales due.
January 28 – annual Lee-Jackson Luncheon, 12 noon, 1st Presbyterian Church, Laurens;
Speaker – Teresa Roane from Richmond, Combat Support: Minorities in the Confederate Army.”; ticketed event.
February 21 – meeting at 6:30 at home of Eloise Verdin; soup and cornbread supper; program: Parlor Games of the Victorian Period.
March 11 – trip to Columbia tour of War Between the States and Confederate Related Sites;
Departure time to be determined.
April 18 – speaker Pat McNeely, “Sherman’s Flame and Blame Campaign thru Georgia and the Carolinas.”
May 13 – Confederate Memorial Day, Courthouse Square, Laurens, 10 AM, in conjunction with the McGowan SCV camp; luncheon following sponsored by the UDC.
